Crazy Fans
by casey on Jun.15, 2006, under People are Idiots
Last night I was at the Twins game and got to watch two crazy fans run across the field. One decides to round the bases and slide head first into home. Just then the bat boy steps up and takes him out. Talk about embarrassing.

UPS Thinks I’m an ASSCLOWN
by casey on Mar.10, 2006, under People are Idiots
This morning when I got into the office I started thinking about how pissed I was yesterday. I decided to look at UPS’s delivery status website just to see what it said. I was amazed to find that

ASSCLOWN received a package yesterday. I know I had problems signing the electronic clipboard thingy… but… I hardly believe my scribble looked anything like “ASSCLOWN.” See for yourself. My tracking number is 1Z 90X 310 39 4516 857 6 I’m just trying to decide if this falls in the realms of a slander lawsuit.
Patent on AJAX Granted?
by casey on Feb.24, 2006, under People are Idiots
Apparently the USPTO believes that some “no name webshop”1 has met all the requirements by demonstrating that their invention is non-obvious and unique, and granted a very broad patent over “Rich Media Applications on the Internet.” Kee-frickin-rist! What is next a patent on bathroom towels?

If Found, Please Return to 1201 Yale Place.

Today I run the Twin Cities Marathon. I was thinking that I should write on my shirt, “If found, please return to 1201 Yale Place,” just in case things don’t go as well as I hope they will. Last year I ran Grandma’s Marathon in just under four hours and am trying to better that this year. Erin is running the 10 miler this year and is very nervous, so if you see her on the trail, shout some words of encouragement.
You can track me on the results page using bib #3398.

Katrina was the gays fault
by casey on Sep.06, 2005, under People are Idiots
According to Rick Scarborough, a prominent member of the Christian right, this disaster was brought upon ourselves by doing such things as supporting the Jewish pullout of the Gaza Strip, promoting gay marriage and unorthodox sex acts. Really?! I almost forgot God IS vengeful. He drowned all the people on earth (minus Noah and all the animals – which was only like 1.5 million known and named today) in a great flood and he waxed a bunch of people in Sodom and Gomorrah.
If these acts don’t make use fearful, I don’t know what he needs to do. One would think the fear of living for eternity in hell with all the wailing and gnashing of teeth would be enough to scare people straight. Maybe he will deem a massive San Franciscan earthquake in order to really take care of the gays. Or maybe it will come in the form of another terrorist attack. I don’t think it will be that bad though, I suspect people are slowly but surely getting his message.

Televangelist Calls for Assassination of Chavez
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson suggested on-air that American operatives assassinate Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to stop his country from becoming ”a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism.”

Senator Kay O’Connor (R-Olathe, Kansas) Against Nineteenth Amendment, but Running for Secretary of State?!
by casey on Jun.03, 2005, under People are Idiots
How can a woman run for (and currently hold) a state elected position if you don’t support suffrage? The logic escapes me. Is she saying that she supports women working in the government — if a man says she can?
Her words (on Sept. 28th, 2001), not mine, about women’s suffrage:
“We have a society that does tear families apart … I think the 19th Amendment, while it’s not an evil in and of itself, is a symptom of something I don’t approve of.”
(The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, ratified in 1920, gave women the right to vote nationwide.)
“The 19th Amendment is around because men weren’t doing their jobs, and I think that’s sad. I believe the man should be the head of the family. The woman should be the heart of the family.
If I don’t get re-elected, my only punishment is to go home to my husband and my roses and my children and my grandchildren … And if the trips to Topeka get to be too much and my husband asks me to quit, I would.”

disassemble or dissemble
THE PRESIDENT: I’m aware of the Amnesty International report, and it’s absurd. It’s an absurd allegation. The United States is a country that is — promotes freedom around the world. When there’s accusations made about certain actions by our people, they’re fully investigated in a transparent way. It’s just an absurd allegation.
In terms of the detainees, we’ve had thousands of people detained. We’ve investigated every single complaint against the detainees. It seemed like to me they based some of their decisions on the word of — and the allegations — by people who were held in detention, people who hate America, people that had been trained in some instances to disassemble — that means not tell the truth. And so it was an absurd report. It just is. And, you know — yes, sir.
Actually Mr. President… Don’t you mean dissemble?
I have a great idea, let’s go to Mars.
by casey on Jun.01, 2005, under People are Idiots
Just a question, but could we possibly take care of the health care system before we send people to Mars? I’m all for research and development, but come on. Let’s put some money into social security. Let’s put some money into Medicare and Medicaid. Let’s put some money into NCLB. Don’t spend money on a Mars trip until we take care of the 35.9 38 million Americans living in poverty.

PGP Encryption Utility on a computer now means you look at child porn?
by casey on May.25, 2005, under People are Idiots
Why is it that it always seems like the world is going two steps forward one step back? Ok. I’ll just lay it out… ignorant people should not be allowed to “judge” things they do not have the slightest clue about.
For anyone that does not already know, PGP is used for encryption of many things, including but definitely not limited to, sensitive financial data, medical records, diaries, and email. It also can be used to encrypt things like terrorist recruiting books, child pornography, and probably the anarchist cookbook. Once again the technology is ambivalent to what it is used for (see p2p”>see p2p). Take away PGP now and soon you will need to take away all strong encryption. Do that and eventually you will need to get rid of SSL leading to the demise of e-commerce. Just because a person has PGP on their computer does not make that person a criminal. (Shit, I have PGP on my computer right now!) It would be like trying to link a person with a large fireproof safe in his closet to the theft of “The Scream.”
