Just wanted to announce the new addition to the family (and the reason I have been away so long), Carson Alexander Helbling. Stay tuned…. Much more to follow.
Sketches for a Buck
Posted by casey at March 27th, 2006
I heard about Sketch It from Ben and thought I would give it a try. A local artist, Kelly Newcomer, did a sweet sketch of Bipin. The results are perfect…maybe better than perfect. I’m going to have it framed and hang it over Bip’s bed. Everyone should have a sketch done, and for only a dollar, how can you afford not to?
The Baby!
Posted by casey at March 6th, 2006
This morning Erin and I had the ultrasound for the baby. It was so amazing to see the little guy/girl?! wiggling around inside Erin. We are 19 weeks along and it is really starting to sink in that in less than 5 months I am going to be a daddy. Wow! Have fun with the photos… The first three are aggregate photos with about 4-6 individuals on one page. All the rest are broken out individuals. “baby_individual_2006.03.06_06.jpg” seen below is a cool image where you can see him/her yawning… or … insert random alien screaming joke here.

Still Recovering
Posted by casey at October 4th, 2005
The runs went rather well, Erin and I both finished… some people just call me the 2 second guy since my chip time was 3:59:58. Seriously, talk about cutting it close. My legs are still very sore and I grimace every time I stand up. Hopefully the lactic acid goes away soon. I have some video footage of the death trot that I would like to post in the upcoming days. It is pretty funny to see such a fatty running next to all the skinny little “professional” runners. I’m sure you will all get a kick out of it.

Anti-Rape device
Posted by casey at August 31st, 2005
A newly invented anti-rape device has caused a stir in South Africa where an estimated 1.69 million rapes occur each year (one every 26 seconds). The device is basically a female condom that is internally lined with sharp microscopic barbs that “latch on” to an attacker’s penis when he withdraws. Once the device is “latched” it is only removable by surgery signaling authorities of an incident.
I say more power to the women who wear them. If a man doesn’t want his junk caught in the device, keep it out of where it doesn’t belong. Others surprisingly disagree.

Remember that one time, in Brueggers… this was the invention I was talking about…. And you thought I was on crack.

4-Star General Relieved Of Duty
Posted by casey at August 10th, 2005
With cases like this, it is no wonder why recruitment numbers are plummeting. Why anyone would want to devote a life to the military, have an outstanding unblemished record, become a four star general, only to be booted out three months before you could retire. I wonder how many other soldiers have had extramarital affairs that have gone unpunished? How come when you torture and kill people it falls under service to your country but when you sleep around it is criminal and against the “Code”? How come one president can fix intelligence around the policy to get us into an illegal war it goes unmentioned, but when another president has an extramarital affair he gets a special counsel Ken Starr giving him the fifth degree (ultimately leading to an impeachment trial)?
WTF - Apparently adultery is a family value on a whole higher level than lying, torture, war, needless death and suffering. I guess I really need to get my priorities straight.
Be Thankful!

Steve and I saw chef Tyler Florence from FoodTV at Marshall Fields a while back doing a “minicooking” seminar and book signing. I’ve always been a big fan of Thai food so when he made this dish in like 15 minutes … I knew I had a chance. Try it, the best/easiest green curry recipe, you won’t be disappointed! (PS: If you don’t want to make the fresh curry paste, you can substitute with the store bought stuff which cuts down your prep time considerably.)

Jacko Trial Over, Back to Your Regular Scheduled Programming
Posted by casey at June 15th, 2005
When is the “media” actually going to start reporting the news?
Top story today, “Schiavo Autopsy Shows Massive Brain Damage.” Once again they successfully covered up the real news. If you carefully look deep inside cnn.com you can find it “Restaurant bombing kills 23 Iraqi soldiers.” Yesterday the Jacko verdict covered up “19 Killed in Blast Outside Kirkuk Bank.”
It’s been so long since I’ve seen some real news that I don’t even know what the hell is really going on in the world. Are we still at war in Iraq? Oh we are?! I thought that was over a few years ago. I had no idea. So then what is the official body count? Huh, who would have thought. Well at least I can surely tell you that Shiavo’s brain was officially mush — ’cause that is pretty damn important.

Conflicting Bible Statements
Posted by casey at May 11th, 2005
I’m considering starting a new category in which I take conflicting bible verses or just plain crazy verses and “expose” it. This could be a ton of fun and a great exercise in just really how wacky Christianity is.
Here is my first attempt - “An Eye for an Eye”.

Well… Snipsnap as a bliki is just a little too immature and I am attempting to move all my content to Movable Type this weekend. Hopefully, things will be back up and running with the look and feel you have known and loved for the last year.
