I just did this this weekend myself. No problems with rubygems here (version 0.9.0 was installed)

As for RMagick/ImageMagick: this was the main reason I went to macports last year. all you have to do is:

sudo port install rb-rmagick

All of the dependencies will be handled for you.

Poor UPS guy: they get to keep their jobs only if they can keep up with their quota. ... The head office called him in his truck and probably reamed him out and so he had to come back and deliver that package.

Poor UPS guy nothing. Maybe he should have actually tried to deliver the package the first time.

I'm just trying to decide if this falls in the realms of a slander lawsuit.

No, since your name is not associated with the publicly visible tracking data. However, I would certainly complain to UPS and get the dumbass in trouble.

This is about the most hillarious thing I've heard in a long time. Poor UPS guy: they get to keep their jobs only if they can keep up with their quota. If they don't make quota (number of attempted deliveries per day), the get fired. The head office called him in his truck and probably reamed him out and so he had to come back and deliver that package.

I used to work with a guy named Bipin and thought it was a "cute" name -- it kinda reminds me of Pippin from LOTRs. I've also found out that it has orgins in Vipin, meaning the forrest in sanskrit. His middle name is from (obvious or not) Ernesto "Che" Guevara... and I think you probably know who he is and what he stands for/symbolizes. Also, I found Che fitting being that the Havanese breed hails from Havana Cuba.

Casey, it's "were". I wish Kerry "were" president. Subjunctive case. You are talking about something that is not according to fact, so you use "were" not "was". It seems like a nitpick, but it's in your headline. Go ahead and delete this comment once you fix it. :)

Thanks Nick! My grammar is terrible.

One again Casey your twisted anger and hatred has made you attack without first thinking it through or researching. Since you are unaware of basic national laws that prohibit and strictly limit the use of soldiers in law enforcement roles, let me fill you in. There are two major laws: the Insurrection Act and the Posse Comitatus Act.
(See http://www.northcom.mil/index.cfm?fuseaction=news.factsheets&factsheet=5)
These laws allow the use of soldiers for law enforcement only in very certain circumstances and when requested by state authorities, only to combat an insurrection (I hardly think the rampant looting counts). Your deep-seeded desire to attack Bush no matter how or why is seemingly at odds with your own political viewpoints here. For someone afraid of fascism, it is odd you want troops used in such a one-armed manner. I would think violations of the Constitutuion and the use of troops as police would violate your opposition to the supposed "police-state" you think Bush is creating. But instead, you advocate a police state, especially if it were John Kerry giving the orders. Talk about hypocrisy.

I know you are a smart guy aware of the concept of Federalism, in which local governments have relative autonomy and are not directly controlled by the national government. Yet, you also refuse to put any blame on state and local officials, who in the state of Louisiana are overwhelmingly Democrat. Did you notice how everybody with any authority or responsibility in New Orleans got the fuck out, including the police and the mayor who was in Houston? To quote Pink Floyd, "Hello...is there anybody out there?" Have you seen the picture of the hundreds of flooded school buses? Was Bush also responsible for that, was he supposed to personally drive them to higher ground while the civil servants of Louisiana all skedaddled?
Your own dislike of Bush and Republicans clouds your mind and leaves you acting like a Sith lord, spitting acid on everything out of factional spite, not out of any higher ideology.

PS- You also forgot to mention the US Marines in the rapid advance on Baghdad...they were equally important if not more so than the 3rd Div. Go corps! Maybe you like to see them down in North Minneapolis taking a bite out of crime and randomly searching people. How could President Bush let our city get so bad! He is responsible for the crime there and should have acted sooner against the rampant violence and unsafe conditions!

If I leave my car unlocked and a criminal steals it and uses it for a crime, am I responsible for that crime?

If a policeman has his gun taken by a criminal and used in a crime, is he responsible for what his gun does in the hands of another?

If you rent an apartment to someone who it turns out is using your property to murder or make meth, are you responsible for that?

I would agree that all people that kill innocent people for their so-called "cause" are terrorists, but I would be careful to legitimize(?) their religious affiliations. Just as mainstream followers of Islam do not support the views of their radical "brothers", any "right-minded" christian follower would not consider the bombing of an abortion clinic to be alligned with the philosophies of their religion. These people "use" religion as a justification or to somehow support their cause, but they are hiding behind that religion and in fact acting against its practices. We can sentence U.S. citizens (and have) to life in prison for their offenses, but it is tough to sentence non-citizens for similar crimes. We have a judicial system to deal with our countries "ill-notioned" but we don't have a handle on catching and sentencing "outsourced" terrorists - many whom are harbored or financed by various nation-states or organizations. This is a very loaded question and cannot be answered in black and white. Of course there is not a difference between killers of different "religions", they are all murderers, but yes there is a difference on how "terrorists" must be dealt with depending on where they reside...

Isn't it funny what is news sometimes - what books the president reads - I figure Oprah is the only person that really can move book sales. I also find it funny that people think that presidents and nation leaders actually take "vacations". I guess I am too young to remember the vacation dates of most other presidents - but I've seen almost daily press conferences and news from the President and White House as of late, so to think that "business" can't be done outside of the office is a message quite different from businesses large and small communicate. More things can get done over the phone, on the golf course, at lunch, or at a vacation home than most get done standing around at the water cooler. Yes, the presidency is not a regular job, but I am sure Bush hasn't turned his "cell phone" off or pushed "do not disturb" on his phone. You know, there have been times in the recent and less recent past where "liesurely" activities have taken place inside the Oval Office... Oh, and I guess Kurlansky doesn't want any one who doesn't share his views to read his book - he should be thankful, this is probably the most press his "seemingly" boring book has received.

Wow! So people who a child or a parent fighting for their lives do not have a right to show support for their family? I think the war in Iraq is a sad situatoin, but to pigeon-hole all people that support the armed forces (doing what they are oredered to do) and call them "pricks" is not really all that funny. Free speech works both ways, one has the right to criticize foreign policy and the like and one also has the right to support it or support those undertaking the responsibilities... emotional rants or name calling really weakens ones point if it has validity or not...
